City of Elk River Proclamation for 1000 Acts of Random Kindness
CITY OF ELK RIVER PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Acts of Random Kindness are those considerate things that are done for no reason; and
WHEREAS, kindness is fundamental to life and is essential to the success of human relationships; and
WHEREAS, kindness transcends those boundaries we place among ourselves and fosters a sense of belonging and community; and
WHEREAS, kindness is an important tool we can use to connect with one another, enhance the emotional climate around us, and bring good into the world; and
WHEREAS, doing acts of random kindness gives people a measurable boost of happiness; and
WHEREAS, acts of random kindness are a way to bring about important systemic change. While apathy and indifference can demoralize a community, kindness can empower and uplift it;
WHEREAS, the daily acts of kindness already being performed by the citizens of Elk River often go unrecognized and uncelebrated;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that I, Stephanie Klinzing, Mayor of the City of Elk River, MN, do hereby proclaim February, 2010 to be Acts of Random Kindness Month in the City of Elk River, and I urge all citizens and city employees to practice acts of random kindness for family, friends, acquaintances, and strangers, and to live their lives in keeping with this attitude every day.
